為了舉辦這次難得的盛會，臺北市政府特別斥資，於民國96年2月拆除位於臺北小巨蛋旁的臺北田徑場，並於原址重建，新建場地包括400公尺田徑場兼足球場、300公尺暖身田徑場等，可容納2萬人。值得一提的是，新的臺北田徑場通過國際田徑總會的一級認證，可見其施工品質已達到國際級的專業水準。展望未來，臺北田徑場、臺北小巨蛋，再結合松山運動中心將成為「臺北市體育園區」，也是臺北市另一個重要地標。
